Green hydrogen represents one of the most significant economic potential over the next 30 years.

Renewable hydrogen economies could address many of the economic and environmental challenges Africa faces. Hydrogen-Africa is the market maker for hydrogen in Africa. We’ll create and shape green hydrogen markets in and for Africa. Hydrogen-Africa will be a multi-stakeholder association for the renewable electricity, hydrogen, fuel cell, and ammonia industries, along with financial institutions, African governments, and municipalities.

This collaborative approach will result in the first concrete, green hydrogen, and ammonia projects. Hydrogen-Africa aims to act as a catalyst to establish hydrogen economies in Africa, bringing together diverse stakeholders and focusing on the supply and demand of hydrogen, ammonia, and other chemicals and energy carriers, services and solutions, rules and regulations, financially attractive investments, and access to capital.

What is Green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen — hydrogen produced through the electrolysis of water with renewable energy — is a proven technology with vastly underappreciated potential to decarbonize large sectors of the global economy. Green hydrogen is defined as hydrogen produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity through a process called electrolysis. This results in very low or zero carbon emissions. Emerging green hydrogen strategies and policies differ widely on the definition of “renewable energy,” the boundaries of the carbon accounting system, the emission thresholds at which hydrogen is considered green, and the feedstocks and production technologies deployed. This lack of standardisation is undermining efforts to accelerate the use of green hydrogen.

Hydrogen-Africa is the only continent-wide African umbrella association solely dedicated to the development of green and natural (native) hydrogen, hydrogen-based chemicals, fuel cell technology and related business opportunities in Africa.

Hydrogen-Africa represents South Africa Green Hydrogen and the whole African continent of hydrogen projects.

In order to form the strongest possible international alliance for utilizing South African’s and Africa’s hydrogen potential and creating green wealth, organizations from anywhere in the world are welcome to join the Hydrogen-Africa.

Hydrogen-Africa is a diverse, international and democratic African organization governed by its members.
